School Pupils Experience College Life

We threw our doors open to over 700 school pupils this week for a Hands-on Interactive Fair.

Years nine and ten from six local schools visited us to discover hidden talents, hands-on activities, college life and future careers.

Starting with an introduction by our own students on their coach, the school pupils were invited to explore the whole college; discovering a range of activities and specialist facilities as they travelled to each department.

Sparking the pupils’ curiosity was a whole host of exhibits, including hair styling in the Hair & Beauty Academy, taste-testing in the Gallery Restaurant, a flight simulator, quiz on A Levels, photographic studio and plumbing demonstration – complete with leaking pipes.

As part of our celebration of National Apprenticeships Week, teachers introduced current marketing apprentices Natasha Ellens and Alexander Perkins to pupils, who shared their experiences of being able to earn while they learn and how it compares to life at school.

Schools Liaison Officer Simba Mlambo said:

“With so many choices facing pupils around their final years at school, events like this help them think about what it is they’re working towards and how exciting their futures could be.

“Our collaboration with local schools has meant we can help raise pupils’ aspirations and show the full spectrum of post-GCSE options; from Apprenticeships to vocational courses and A Levels.”

Farnborough College of Technology is an outstanding-rated college with courses ranging from AS and A Levels, to Apprenticeships and more specialist vocational qualifications such as diplomas, certificates and industry awards. Find out more about our range of courses for school leavers here.
