October Careers Update

When and Where to find our Careers Advisers

The Farnborough Careers Advisers are available every Tuesday (Hannah West), Wednesday (Spencer Chisham) and Thursday (Sarah Tatler), term-time only, from 8.30am – 4.00pm.

The Aldershot Careers Adviser, Sue Hall, is available alternate Wednesdays, term-time only, from 8.30am – 4.00pm.

You can book one-to-one careers appointments via the college website in Careers Zone. These appointments are currently being held in the room behind the Learner Services desk, next to the Theatre in the Foyer.

Education, Training and Careers Support for Surrey Residents in Years 12 and 13

Surrey County Council, Vulnerable Learner Transition Team have introduced a new post 16 service. This will offer information, advice and guidance to those who are NEET or risk of NEET (not in education, employment or training).

Please see link below to access the referral form for additional support for Surrey residents with ‘Information, Advice and Guidance’ to help young people prepare for their future.

NEET support referral – Surrey County Council (surreycc.gov.uk)

This is a Post-16 offer that provides one-to-one support to young people, to set them on a path to appropriate education, employment or training, and the form can be submitted by the student/parents/professionals. The service will only be able to support young people up to the end of August in Year 13.

This support will be helpful for those who are not successful at college and who require additional support.


Volunteering Opportunity

Would you be interested in volunteering at Grange Community Juniors School on a Thursday after school to help with their Junior Duke Award activities?

Activities include various challenges, including skills such as First Aid, ICT, Eco Awareness, Drama, Music, Sport plus more.

In order to enhance student confidence and address inequalities in academic attainment and exams this year, this is a FREE initiative to support students with study skills and exam technique mentoring.

All students are invited from all backgrounds to take part in this Live Free Virtual Study Skills and Exam Technique Webinar which is suitable for students in Years 10-13 studying any subject. If students are unable to attend the webinar live, they can register to receive a recording along with some excellent free handouts describing study techniques that are underpinned by evidence-based-research.

You’re also welcome to attend if you’re at the start of your university journey and want to find out more about this university. Their open day runs from 9:30am-16:00pm, you are welcome to stay for just the morning or afternoon, or for the entire day.
