During your final two years at secondary school, you can also choose to study a college course with us as one of your options.

By taking one of your options at Farnborough College of Technology you will:

Our courses will help to prepare you for further education, and the workplace, while you continue to study towards your GCSEs. The varied curriculum we offer will allow you to choose from a range of different vocational subjects which will develop your practical and technical skills. Our tutors have industry experience, and are therefore able to lead by example, and pass on their skills to each and every student they teach. By focusing on personal motivation, wellbeing, teamwork and respect, we aim to cultivate an environment where you feel prepared not only for employment, but also for your post-16 education.

We hope that you will continue onto our full-time college courses once you have finished your 14-16 course – we have a range of Vocational Courses, A Levels and Apprenticeships for you to choose from.

Art & Design
Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Art and Design

This broad course will allow you to develop a portfolio of work based in a range of Art and Design areas. You’ll be learning the core principles of Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Design, and Textiles, to extend your current knowledge-base, but in a practical environment.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 3 Art and Design course, or you could look for employment in the Creative Arts Industry.


Business, Administrative
Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise

If you’re interested in developing your communication, planning, team-working, and people skills, this course is for you. You’ll learn about a wide range of Business activities, while encouraging your development of the knowledge and skills relevant to working in the business world. This course will give you the opportunity to think about running your own business in the future.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 2 or Level 3 Business courses, or prepare you for an Apprenticeship.


Catering and Hospitality
WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering (Specification A)

Are you interested in how the Hospitality industry functions? Would you like to develop practical Food and Beverage skills? On this course, you’ll do just that, whilst also learning how commodities are used to produce food, and recognise the links between allergens, diets, and well-being. You’ll also be given the opportunity to develop your technical skills by producing and serving food and beverages using industry equipment.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Catering and Hospitality courses, or prepare you for an Apprenticeship.


Construction
WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Designing the Built Environment

You’ll gain an overview of the four main areas of Construction – Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing, and Electrical Installation by studying this course. You’ll be doing practical, hands-on work to learn how to do some repairs, and the basics of each area whether that’s working on your pipe work, installing cables, building structures, or making a variety of wood working joints.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 1 courses in one of the four main areas of Construction, or an Apprenticeship.


Engineering
City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Award in Engineering

You’ll be using industry standard equipment in a real working environment to gain an understanding of the Engineering world. You’ll be taught in practical workshops and classrooms, learn to make components using a range of hand tools, investigate engineered products, and find creative ways of solving problems.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our BTEC Level 2 or Level 3 Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering courses.


Floristry
ABC Level 1 Award in Practical Floristry Skills

Are you interested in practical floristry skills aim to enable you to gain work-related skills in this area? This course aims to develop generic employability skills, prepare you for further training within this occupational area and to gain an insight into core activities within the floristry industry area in order to allow you to make an informed career decision.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 2 Floristry courses, or for an Apprenticeship.


Hair and Beauty
VRQ Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and beauty Sector OR
VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy (VRQ)

Are you interested in going in to the Hairdressing and Beauty industry? This course will provide you with the skills you need to gain an understanding of the sector, and progress to another course. You’ll be learning about a range of topics, from marketing and promotions in the sector, to Hair and Beauty science. This course will help you to cultivate your critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and creativity skills, while allowing you to use your initiative, before you begin your Level 2 course.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 2 Hairdressing, or Level 2 Beauty Therapy courses, or for an Apprenticeship.


Health and Care
Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Health and Social Care

Ever wondered what it would be like to work in the Care sector? This course will provide you with extended knowledge and experiences of working in the care sector in a variety of roles. Most of the work for this course is practical and hands-on, where you’ll be taught a range of different modules, from learning about how the body operates, to understanding how to improve an individual’s lifestyle and well-being.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, employment in the Care sector or an apprenticeship.


IT/Computing
Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Information and Creative Technology

Here’s your chance to take the first steps in developing the skills required for a successful career in one of the most lucrative sectors in the UK; ICT. Over the course you’ll be given an introduction to some of the key themes within the industry, with the opportunity to explore digital devices and the technology that enables them to share and exchange information. You’ll also develop a range of practical, technical and creative skills needed to succeed in the online world and finish the course with a digital portfolio and experience in graphics and animation.

PROGRESSION: This course is ideal for preparing you for our Level 3 courses in ICT or Games Development.


Media
Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Creative Media Production

Ever wondered how the media industry works, or how you can obtain the skills to find a job in one of the most rewarding careers in the UK? If yes, this course is designed to help you answer both of these questions. You’ll learn about Digital Media Sectors and Audiences, plan and pitch a digital media product, and produce a short film and an audio product. To do this, you’ll be using two broadcast radio stations, professional video and filming equipment and our industry standard editing suites, all to take you one step closer to your career in media.

PROGRESSION: This course is ideal for preparing you for our Level 3 course in Creative Media.


Motor Vehicle
City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Award in Vehicle Technology

You’ll be learning key skills in servicing and maintenance by working on cars. You’ll gain an understanding of mechanical engineering and combustion engines, develop knowledge in the planning of projects, and study a range of hands-on topics such as investigation repair and replacement of tyres.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for a Level 1 or 2 courses in Automotive Engineering.


Music
NCFE Level 2 Technical Award in Music Technology

Do you want to play and perform music? On this hands-on course, you’ll be working in small groups, rehearsing and performing contemporary music in a range of different performance spaces. You’ll also be working in our professional recording studio where you’ll have the opportunity to record and mix the songs you perform.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 3 Music and Music Technology course


Performing Arts
Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Performing Arts

On this course you’ll be preparing to create, learn, and perform your work in a performance showcase, while learning practical skills in our Theatre and Studio. You’ll be taught by practicing industry professionals, who will introduce you to the wider world of Performing Arts.

PROGRESSION: This course will prepare you for our Level 3 course in Performing Arts.


Sport and Fitness
NCFE Level 1/2 Technical Award in Health and Fitness

On this course you’ll gain a broad understanding of the fascinating world of health and fitness. This includes the principles of training, creating a health and fitness programme and how physical activities affect the body. Lessons take place with lecturers who teach college and degree courses and have lots of different backgrounds and information to share with you.

PROGRESSION: This course will put you in a great position for starting a level 2 or 3 course in sport with us.
