The C&G Level 1 Award is ideal if you are new to the welding and metal fabrication and want to gain knowledge and practical experience. The unit will demonstrate welding skills typically found in industry and associated underpinning knowledge to a level that will enable you to complete welded joints in simple welding positions. The course will also prepare you to be able to progress to Level 2 or other types of welding.
You will complete 5 different types of welding joints which include welding beads, Tee fillets, lap joints and an open corner weld and you will be assessed in completing these.
You will require appropriate PPE.

There are seven single unit Award size qualifications available at this Level, plus two Certificate size qualifications. To gain a qualification you must successfully complete a number of practical assignments and an oral knowledge test.
For the qualifications at Levels 1 and 2 you will complete a number of practical assignments and oral knowledge tests.
The Awards and Certificates could help you develop your welding and fabrication career and take on jobs that require basic skills. After taking a Level 1 qualification, you could move on to a Level 2 Award or Certificate.
Assessment is through a combination of short oral examinations and practical assessments. You will complete 5 different types of welding joints which include beads, fillets, lap joints and an open corner. Progression is to a Level 2 Award or to a different type of welding.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
