Employ an Apprentice
Apprenticeships provide affordable training for employers as the training costs can be subsidised by the Government. Apprenticeships are for people aged 16 and over. We can help you with recruitment by providing a Training Needs Analysis, advertising your apprenticeship job vacancies free of charge and screening applicants to meet your business needs. Alternatively, an existing member of your staff can also be considered for an apprenticeship.
There are a number of benefits to hiring an apprentice, including:
A cost-effective way of recruiting and/or training new staff
Skilled and experienced staff can help increase your sales, efficiency and profitability and give you the edge over your competition
Recognising talent and supporting your staff through apprenticeships improves their performance, motivation and loyalty
Apprenticeships are tailored to organisational needs and to the needs of each individual learner, with a range of flexible delivery models
Government funding is available to contribute towards the apprenticeship costs

Most qualifications and skills are achieved through a combination of workplace assessment and College attendance.
Advertise a job vacancy to our students, including full-time, part-time, internships, temporary or voluntary roles on our Student Jobs Board. Regardless of sector, location, or size, all organisations are welcome to post their vacancies. Once submitted, the job post will be reviewed by our team and listed on our Jobs Board page.
Please note, we can only post full-time vacancies from the end of May, or full-time vacancies that start from August onwards at any time. This is the most common reason for us to decline adverts.
Exhibit at our next Careers Fair
Every March we host our Careers Fair for students of all levels and subjects to visit. We welcome businesses, charities, and other education providers to register their place to attend.
If you want to talk to students about career opportunities at your company, we would love to hear from you. Whether it's a talk, workshop, or setting a live brief - employers have a lot to offer.
We offer a range of online courses that are relevant to the workplace. Thanks to government funding, many people are eligible to study these courses free of charge. Browse our range of online courses.
Professional and Part-time Courses
Our accredited qualifications are designed to support people to both change careers and upskill for the one they have already begun. Most of these courses are delivered in a way that works alongside full-time employment and links directly to the employee's role, making them especially valuable to both employers and employees alike.
Farnborough College of Technology is responsible for the safeguarding of their students which extends beyond the college campus, including apprentices. We ensure that as employers you receive sufficient support and training.
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding means the overall well-being of students, ensuring safety and care as well as protection.
What is Prevent?
The College has a legal obligation (Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015) to prevent people from being radicalised and drawn into terrorism. This covers all students regardless of age and requires us to be aware of any potential dangers and who to do about them.
Assess any risks to students before commencement of employment
Understand the safeguarding requirements and ensure measures are put in place to report these concerns (nominate a designated safeguarding colleague)
Provide appropriate induction, training and supervision to students
Allow students to converse about their concerns about extremism including topics and events in the news
Be responsive to changes in student’s behaviour that may cause worry or concern
For any safeguarding concern, please contact our designated safeguarding team on 01252 407373 or via email at safe@farn-ct.ac.uk.
Setting up a Digital Account
Digital accounts
You will need to set up a digital account on the apprenticeship service to access funds to pay for apprenticeship training. The following links will help you with this but please contact us on business@farn-ct.ac.uk or 01252 407299 if you would like any further assistance.
Supporting employers who are new to the apprenticeship service
From 1st April 2021 all new apprenticeships will be managed and funded using the apprenticeship service. All employers hiring apprentices will need to have an apprenticeship service account in order to access funding. As trusted advisors to employers, training providers have an important role to play in helping those employers who are new to the apprenticeship service.
There are a number of ways you can remind employers to take action, or, with permission, manage actions on their behalf. We recently outlined these touchpoints as part of a webinar for colleges. The explanation is relevant to all training providers. Watch our recording to help you plan how best to onboard new employers.
There are additional resources available to support you and employers:
Our YouTube playlist ‘Using the apprenticeship service’ is a collection of simple, how-to videos. You might want to start with ‘Training providers: apprenticeship service user journey’, which uses a demo to explain how to guide employers through the apprenticeship service.
apprenticeships.gov.uk contains all the answers to questions frequently asked by potential apprentices and employers. The employer zone is also a useful tool for training providers. It features simple explanations which you can use to support employers.
Our help articles provide straightforward advice on how to use the apprenticeship service. They’re great to share with employers and can help you to navigate any known issues too.
Our webinar playlist on YouTube is home to a series of deep-dive sessions covering topics from funding rules to end-point assessments.

Find out How to Add Apprentices to Your Digital Account here.
The apprenticeship levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to make an investment in apprenticeships through a digital account (apprenticeship service). As an Employer, you can benefit from this investment by training apprentices for your business or to transfer funds to other employers, through the apprenticeship service.
Transfers can be made to any employer, including smaller employers in your supply chain, and apprenticeship training agencies. You will be able to transfer up to 25% of the annual value of funds entering your apprenticeship service account.
If you use all of the funds in your account, the government will contribute 95% and you will contribute 5% of any amount that exceeds your funds. For further information, please check the government page Transferring unused apprenticeship funds to other employers – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Our team can advise you on how to utilize your levy in either upskilling existing workforce or training new apprentices into the business.
