About the course

This is a technical level qualification aimed at developing the knowledge, understanding and technical skills needed for a career as a Sports Massage Therapist, either employed or self-employed. The course starts each September.

This sports massage course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the theory of sports massage therapy, including functional anatomy and physiology related to Sports Massage and the principles of health and fitness, which combined, will equip you to better understand the athlete, the problems they may be incurring and how Sports Massage can help.

In addition you will develop an understanding of the differences between soft tissue dysfunction, an injury and the role that Sports Massage plays.

It will also provide you with the skills and techniques to plan, prepare and apply a range of techniques to treat your clients.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to gain employment as a Level 3 Sports Massage Practitioner, providing pre, post, intra/inter and maintenance massage. This may include working in clinics, for sporting teams or as mobile therapists. This may be in an employed or self-employed therapist.
