From the outset, strong emphasis is placed on safe working practices, ensuring you understand how to operate confidently and responsibly within a practical setting. As the course progresses, you will develop practical competence through activities such as soldering, using compression fittings, installing and repairing guttering, connecting appliances and removing or replacing radiators. These skills are reinforced through supervised workshop sessions that allow you to build accuracy, confidence and consistency.

How will I be taught?
The course will be a mixture of theory and practical work.
What modules are covered?
Week 1
Introduction to the college and the course, including a comprehensive overview of health and safety within the workshop. General health and safety principles will be introduced and discussed to ensure all participants understand the requirements for safe practice.
Week 2
The session will focus on health and safety delivery, building on the previous week’s content. There will be a check of understanding to confirm that all students are confident in applying health and safety procedures in a practical environment.
Week
This week features hands-on workshop training. Participants will practise soldering, using compression fittings, installing guttering, connecting appliances, and removing or changing radiators. The session will also include copper and non-manipulative assessments, with corresponding paperwork completed by students.
Week 4
Students will undertake tasks for radiator, guttering, and appliance installation.
Week 5
Participants will learn how to remove a radiator from the wall for decorative purposes. The week will also cover the repair and installation of guttering systems, providing practical experience in these key plumbing tasks.
Week 6
• Toilet and faucet installation: Step-by-step guides will be provided to help students carry out these essential plumbing tasks.
• Understanding plumbing systems: The session will cover topics such as PEX pipes, water heaters, and troubleshooting common plumbing problems.
• Maintenance tips for radiators
• Maintenance tips: Discover strategies to extend the life of your plumbing systems and save money on repairs.
