About the course

This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in human performance, sport coaching or sport science. It is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into university or higher education.

  • Careers related to sport include personal trainer, sport and exercise psychologist, sports therapist, sports coach and more
  • You will learn in our modern facilities, including our newly refurbished gym
  • Previous guest speakers have included Adam Bishop, Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Harlequins Rugby team, and Paul Stretch the lead physical preparation coach for GB and England’s senior men’s hockey team
  • This programme combines both theory and practical

According to the EMSI, by 2022 the number of those working as sports professionals is expected to have grown by 10%, making it an exciting and expanding sector to join. This programme is intended for school leavers who are looking to progress into a career in sport coaching or participation and enjoy a blend of both theoretical and practical input. It will also provide a detailed overview of the sport industry, preparing you for progression onto higher education or employment.

Who is this programme for?

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport is intended to be an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the sports sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to three A Levels and has been designed as a full two-year programme.

This course is perfect for school leavers who are looking to progress into a career in Sport Coaching or Participation and enjoy a blend of both theoretical and practical input. The course will also provide a detailed overview of the current context of the sport industry specifically preparing learners for progress into Higher Education or Employment.

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

From School

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4
  • To include English and maths GCSEs at 9-4

From College

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher
  • English and maths at level 2 or higher
