About the course

This course was due to launch in 2023, however, due to a nationwide rollout, the start date for this course has been pushed back to 2024. Please register your interest to be kept up to date. 

Turn your love of cooking into a successful career with the T Level in Catering. This 2-year technical qualification is ideal for creative learners who want to develop their skills in the catering and hospitality industry. With 20% of your time spent on work placement and 80% learning hands-on skills in our industry-standard kitchen and Gallery Restaurant, you’ll gain a variety of skills and knowledge to get you ready for a career in catering. 

Who is this programme for?

The T level in Catering is designed for learners who have a keen interest in catering and would like to progress into a career in the catering and hospitality industry. The course is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into university or higher education.

What modules are covered?

On this course, you will develop an understanding of a broad range of subjects relevant to the sector, including: 

  • Culinary quality 
  • Kitchen operations 
  • Health, safety and security 
  • Nutritional analysis 
  • Food safety practices and procedures 
  • Team working 
  • Business, including risk assessment, waste management principles and supply chain management 

In addition to the core content, you will also complete one module of Professional Catering. You are expected to develop understanding and advanced skills to work with the following different food groups: 

  • Meat, poultry and game, including associated products 
  • Fish and shellfish dishes and products 
  • Vegetables, vegan and vegetarian dishes, including vegetarian protein sources and specific dietary considerations and needs 
  • Dough and batter products, including fermented dough and batter products 
  • Paste and patisserie products 
  • Hot, cold and frozen desserts 
  • Biscuits, cakes and sponges

What Next?

On successful completion of this course, you could go on to work in the catering and hospitality sector or study a relevant course at a higher level.

English, maths and digital provision are built into the classroom-based element of the T Level. You will also gain transferable skills such as:

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

From School: 

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (to include English and maths GCSEs at 9-4) 
  • Level 2 culinary qualification 

From College: 

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher English and maths at level 3 or higher
