This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in aeronautical engineering. It is equivalent to three A Levels and provides a route into university or higher education.
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering has a work related focus and prepares students for employment in the aeronautical engineering sector or to progress to higher education and a vocational degree programme. It is broadly equivalent to 3 “A” Levels.
The course consists of units which have a credit value which should provide a combined total of 180 credits to achieve the BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering (formerly National Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering).
Students will take mandatory units and pre-selected optional units which reflect the modern aeronautical industry.

All units are internally assessed using a strict set of grading criteria and a summative unit grade awarded at pass, merit or distinction. Successful students will be awarded an overall triple grade e.g. DDD, DMM MMP based on points boundaries.
Functional skills are practical skills in English, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Mathematics that allow individuals to work confidently, effectively and independently in life. The Programme Manager for each area will discuss the most appropriate Functional Skill for each student.
Students will leave the college with a broad portfolio of qualifications that will enable progression to work at a technician level and advanced modern apprenticeship, or go on to higher education at Degree level.
As per EASA Regulations, all personnel working for a Part 145 maintenance organisation on large aeroplanes must have valid and approved Human Factors, Fuel Tank Safety Phase 1&2 and Electrical Wiring Interconnecting Systems (to the relevant Target Group) training.
