Farnborough College of Technology and Farnborough Airport Launch Third Airport Operations Certificate
Farnborough College of Technology is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the third intake of the highly popular Certificate in Airport Operations, delivered in partnership with Farnborough Airport, Europe’s leading airport for premium air travel connectivity.
Following two successful programme deliveries since its launch in 2025, the course continues to create valuable pathways into the aviation sector for local adults, helping learners develop industry knowledge, gain professional contacts and, in several cases, secure employment opportunities within aviation.
Developed collaboratively by the College and Farnborough Airport, the six-week programme combines expert classroom-based learning with unique industry insights, providing learners with a comprehensive understanding of airport operations and the wide range of career opportunities available across the aviation sector.
Designed for learners aged 21 and over, the free course will begin on Tuesday 3 November 2026 and conclude on Tuesday 15 December 2026, with evening classes held at Farnborough College of Technology every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 9pm.
Students will learn from specialist lecturers at the College alongside aviation professionals working across Farnborough Airport. The programme covers key operational areas including:
- Introduction to the Airport Industry
- Rescue and Firefighting Service (RFFS)
- Health and Safety
- Ground Handling
- Airport Operations
- National Air Traffic Services (NATS)
- Airport Security
- Customer Service
As part of the Customer Service module, learners will have the opportunity to undertake an additional assessment to gain a recognised City & Guilds qualification, further enhancing their employability.
Places on the programme are free of charge but are limited due to continued demand. Applicants who successfully progress through the selection process will be invited to interview at Farnborough College of Technology.
Ahead of the course commencing, successful applicants will also attend a preparatory visit to Farnborough Airport, providing an opportunity to meet airport managers, fellow learners and gain an early introduction to the programme.
In addition to classroom sessions, students will benefit from up to two immersive Airport Insight Days at Farnborough Airport, providing valuable first-hand experience of working within a live airport environment. Participants will have the opportunity to shadow industry professionals and gain practical insight into specialist operational areas.
The programme forms part of the College’s ongoing commitment to developing local talent and responding to employer demand across key sectors. By working closely with industry partners such as Farnborough Airport, Farnborough College of Technology is helping to equip local people with the skills, confidence and experience needed to access rewarding careers while supporting the growth of the regional economy.
