About the course

Healthcare support staff can work in a variety of different settings within the NHS and private care facilities. The role of the support staff is to provide assistance to healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients.

The Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support is vocationally-based so you can demonstrate achievement of knowledge, understanding and practical skills in one of a variety of roles in the healthcare support environment. This could include Adult Nursing Support, Maternity Support and Physiotherapy Support.

Who is this programme for?

This qualification is for learners who would like to work in one of many Healthcare Support roles, or who is starting the Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship.

What modules are covered?

This course includes 15 mandatory units in group A. The units in group B are optional; learners may take any combination of optional units to achieve the requirements of the qualification. The mandatory units are:

  • Cleaning, decontamination, and waste management

  • Promote communication in care settings
  • Promote effective handling of information in care settings
  • Promote equality and inclusion in care settings
  • Promote health, safety and well-being in care settings

  • Responsibilities of a care worker
  • Safeguarding and protection in care settings
  • Study skills for senior healthcare support workers
  • The principles of infection prevention and control
  • Understand mental health problems
  • Understand mental well-being and mental health promotion
