The course covers the skills needed at Level 3 to carry out a hot stone therapy treatment with the underpinning theory to support knowledge and consultation with clients and health and safety practice.

This is a technical level qualification aimed at developing the knowledge, understanding and technical skills needed for a career as a Sports Massage Therapist, either employed or self-employed. The course starts each September. This sports massage course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the theory of sports massage therapy, including functional anatomy and physiology related to Sports Massage and the principles of health and fitness, which combined, will equip you to better understand the athlete, the problems they may be incurring and how Sports Massage can help. In addition you will develop an understanding of the differences between soft tissue dysfunction, an injury and the role that Sports Massage plays. It will also provide you with the skills and techniques to plan, prepare and apply a range of techniques to treat your clients. Graduates of this qualification will be able to gain employment as a Level 3 Sports Massage Practitioner, providing pre, post, intra/inter and maintenance massage. This may include working in clinics, for sporting teams or as mobile therapists. This may be in an employed or self-employed therapist.

This Sports Massage course will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding needed to perform Sports Massage therapy competently to recent, non-acute injury and pre-existing conditions. This will include a range of massage techniques as well as special and functional massage tests, additional to those acquired at Level 3. You will also develop your advanced knowledge of functional anatomy and physiology related to Sports Massage, to be able to assess and advise on the type of treatment to support soft tissue repair at each stage of injury and recovery and how Sports Massage can help.
