This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in art and design.
You will be introduced to a range of areas, including 2D and 3D fine art. By the end of the programme, you will have produced a portfolio of work to showcase your developing skills.
The course starts with an introduction to a range of media and techniques in drawing and exploring ways of creating art. Use of techniques will help to develop the range and quality of the work. Understanding and looking at the art of the past is combined with practical work, essay writing and notes in books, from visits to galleries such as the V&A and Tate Modern.

Students on the course complete each module usually working in books, or on sheets as guided by their tutors. During each week students can discuss their work with staff and their personal tutor via a weekly tutorial session.
Successful completion of the course requires good use of time and it is recommended that students spend extra time outside of classes to develop their work. At least six hours a week should be planned for this work.
The course is made up of eight modules or units:
The Recording in Art and Design unit and Creative Project in Art and Design will be assessed by exams taking place in May and June respectively. All other modules are assessment based and wil be assessed by your tutors.
On the course students complete a two week placement away from college to increase work skills. During the course students have previously worked on live projects with local schools and this is possible for some of the modules.
Visit www.farn-ct.ac.uk/portfolios to see examples of students' work across all of our creative subjects.
With good grades and a strong portfolio, you could progress to other level 3 programmes where your new skills can be taken further.
