BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design Skills

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design Skills

Course Code: L2CARD Duration: 1 Year Attendance: Full Time Location: Farnborough Campus Start Date: 09/09/2024

Overview

About the course

This creative and hands-on course will introduce you to a variety of areas within art and design, including 2D and 3D fine art, working with visual arts, photography, fashion, graphic design and more. By the end of the programme, you will have produced a portfolio of work to showcase your developing skills, ready to progress on to our level 3 programme.

What will I study?

The course starts with an introduction to a range of media and techniques in drawing and exploring ways of creating art. Understanding the use and application of such techniques will help you to develop your range and quality of work. Understanding and looking at the art of the past is combined with practical work, essay writing and notes in books, and visits to galleries such as the V&A and Tate Modern.

Visit www.farn-ct.ac.uk/portfolios to see examples of students' work across all of our creative subjects.

Your course

How will I be taught?

Students on the course complete each module usually working in books, or on sheets as guided by their tutors.  During each week students can discuss their work with staff and their personal tutor via a weekly tutorial session.

Successful completion of the course requires good use of time and it is expected that students spend extra time outside of classes to develop their work.  At least six to eight hours a week should be planned for this work.

What modules are covered?

During this course, you will study subjects such as:

  • Art and Design Skills
  • Digital Skills
  • Art and Design Project on Painting and Sculpture
  • Personal Professional Development
  • Final Major Project

What training will be provided?

On the course you will complete a two-week placement away from college to increase your work-based skills. During the course students have previously worked on live projects with local schools and this is possible for some of the modules.
