About the course

This course is ideal for students who have completed a Level 2 programme and want to pursue a career in electrical installation. This course will prepare you for employment, by developing your skills, knowledge and understanding of the standards required for the industry. 

*Please note that this qualifictaion does not make candidates fully qualified electricicans.

Who is this programme for?

This course is for students who have successfully completed a Level 2 qualification in Electrical Installation who would like to expand upon their existing knowledge of electrical installation and the construction industry via a full-time course. Upon completion candidates will be awarded the City & Guilds Diploma in Electrical Installations (Building and Structures) Level 3.

Costs

Students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident.

Students must purchase protective workwear and safety footwear in order to comply with health and safety requirements. Financial assistance may be available to help with the cost. Please refer to the College Life section of this website for further information. Some assistance with tuition, registration and exam costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding policy.

Your course

How will I be taught?

Candidates will be taught using a mixture of theory and practical lessons. All practical lessons will take place in our purpose-built workshops under the instruction of staff with extensive industry experience.

What modules are covered?

The course comprises of the following units:

  • Health and safety in building services engineering
  • Environmental technology systems
  • Principles of electrical science
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification
  • Inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Electrical Systems Design
  • Career awareness

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through: 

  • Practical assignments
  • Online exams
  • Written assessments

What Next?

This course allows candidates to progress into employment, although not as a fully qualified electrician, or to other related courses where a more advanced skill set is needed.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

This course is for students progressing from the level 2 course. As well as a relevant level 2 qualification, you will need:

From school:

  • Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 including English and maths

From college:

  • Relevant level 2 qualification at merit grade or higher (to include English and/or maths at level 2 or higher)
