Art Students Create Mural for Community

Our Art and Design students have created a mural at Princes Mead Shopping Centre

Earlier this year, our Art and Design students were asked to come up with individual designs for Princes Mead Shopping Centre’s ‘Hall of Mirrors’. The final designs were sent over to Princes Mead to pick a winner. There could only be one design, and Emily’s won!

Level 3 Art and Design student, Emily, said “The mural is based on contemporary children’s illustrations. We used bright colours, and made it look weird, because children respond to that!”

Art and Design lecturer, Jane Habgood said “This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to get involved in a community project. They had the opportunity to work to a tight deadline for a real client – invaluable experience for the future.”

Princes Mead representative, Liz Marsden, said “We were delighted with the bright and vibrant designs that the Farnborough College students came up with for our Hall of Mirrors.

“There had clearly been a lot of thought and preparation in each of the designs, making it a tricky decision in choosing one, but the winning mural was picked as it is engaging from the grass up with lots of activity and surprises throughout.”

The mural took 2 days to create, and is on display in Princes Mead’s ‘Hall of Mirrors’.

The college is looking forward to working with Princes Mead on future projects.
