Farnham Park Health Group – Gap year opportunity

Are you thinking of having a gap year? Local GP Surgery, Farnham Park Health Group (Farnham Centre for Health, Hale Road, Farnham, GU9 9QS), is calling on all students, particularly those looking to begin their career in medicine with the NHS.

Farnham Park Health Group are looking for prospective medical students to join them for a minimum one-year period, providing the platform to write their own work experience story by joining Farnham Park Health Group for a placement.

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop skills that would be applicable to
medicine, including communication, patience, responsibility, accuracy, punctuality, reliability, and
teamwork.

As well as giving you a taster and helping to ensure it is the career for you, this opportunity also aims
to give you an understanding of the emotional and physical demands that make up being a medical
professional.

Proven to be a first step in the learning curve, you will be assigned administration tasks to include
filing records, coding medical summaries, making and taking telephone calls, reception work and
dealing with prescriptions. Offering regular paid hours, you will also have the opportunity to shadow
GPs and nurses in clinics, giving you the chance to see how a GP surgery runs for a variety of
different patients and illnesses.

The NHS is the biggest employer in the UK with over 1.4 million employees. Time with health care
workers can offer a great insight into the multidisciplinary approach to healthcare.
