About this course

This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in the health and social care or childcare sectors.

This course gives students an opportunity to develop an understanding of the skills and attributes required to work in these sectors. The optional units have been chosen to ensure students are prepared to progress to a Level 2 course in either Health and Social Care or Childcare.

The programme will also develop a knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors.

Core Unit

  • Introduction to the caring sector

  • Communication with adults and children.
  • Promoting healthy eating in care
  • Creative activities for children
  • Learning with colleagues and other learners
  • Self management  skills

This qualification does not qualify learners to work with adults, children or young people but provides a starting point for deciding whether a career in the sector is right for them.

What Next?

Successful completion of the course enables you to progress to a relevant Level 2 qualification, for example Health and Social Care, Early Years Education or Public Services.

Entry Requirements

What previous qualifications and experience will I need?

You'll need a minimum of four GCSEs at Grade A*-E or 9-2, including either English or Maths. If you're already at college, you'll need an entry level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
