Degree Photographers Set-up Shop in Newcastle

Three of our University Centre students have taken their recent work to the Baltic Self-Publishing Artists’ Market in Newcastle.

The event involves over 50 artists, bookmakers, small press publishers, printmakers, artist’s groups and zine makers selling their work.

BA (Hons) Photography students Viviana Chamorro, Fiona Macphee and Tracey Habgood took their photo books to the event to share their work and drum up a few sales.

Viviana said:

“It was a great experience to represent UCF at Newcastle’s Baltic Self Publish Market Exhibition. I had the opportunity to mix with students from other universities, exchange helpful tips and be inspired by really good work”.

Fiona added that it was “a great opportunity to share ideas and be inspired by some like-minded creative individuals in a great setting.”

Lecturer Holly Birtles is a strong supporter of students getting involved in cultural events, especially when they support artists financially. She said:

“It is excellent to see students exhibit their photographic books at The Baltic Gallery in Newcastle. The opportunity allowed them to meet photographers, publishers, book makers, illustrators and artists, which initiated inspirational ideas and technical applications for future projects. Hundreds of professionals in the industry viewed work from the UCF collection and many helpful discussions were had.”
