Matt, who is based at our Aldershot campus, won the regional heats in March and wired his way to first place at the competition finals this April. He was selected to represent the College after an internal competition where he demonstrated his expertise in electrical installation. Matt has been completing his apprenticeship with Inspired Electrical Contractors Ltd., an Aldershot based company managed by Darren Cole.

The grand final took place across two days at the 3M Customer Innovation Centre in Bracknell. The competition was judged by Darren Oates, an External Quality Assurer at EAL. Matt was supported and encouraged by his tutor, Derek Rocket, and Programme Manager, Richard Taylor.

Matt has walked away from the competition with a new title and has won a number of branded electrical tools. He commented:

“I’m ecstatic – I just didn’t see myself winning. I entered to give myself a challenge and I’ve definitely achieved that.”

“The other competitors were great and what I’ll take away from this is the knowledge that I can do something that I thought I couldn’t.”

Applications are still open to study Electrical Installation with us this September. You can explore our full list of courses here.
