When Rick Stein Visited our Catering Students

Did someone say Rick Stein? That’s right; our lucky catering students met celebrity chef, restaurateur and TV presenter Rick Stein, CBE.

Rick visited Farnborough College of Technology and shared the story behind his career, he offered advice and answered questions from students.

As a lecturer at Farnborough College of Technology I wanted not only students to walk away with being enlightened but Rick to have an insight into what fantastic amazing activities and competitions our students have achieved this academic year. Students; Xander, Ben and Oscar talked Rick though a presentation of activities and successes to date.

At the end of Rick’s visit, we even had time for autographs and selfies. A true gentleman that has time for the young chefs of the future. Rick was amazed by the sheer passion Farnborough College of Technology students demonstrated and he was impressed in their achievements; from reaching the semi-finals in Nestle Toque D’Or competition, winning 9 medals at Hotelympia, 17 medals at Wessex Salon Culinaire and travelling to Jersey for an amazing week competing at Heat. But it wasn’t all competitions we showcased, students working at The Ritz in London, visiting P&O cruise liner for a tour with lunch on board and much, much more. His biggest comment was that “it is nice to see how students develop their confidence from competing and how passionate staff members are.” Thank you Rick for your kind words.

And again, thank you Rick for inspiring Farnborough College students with your stories and advice, you are an inspiration to the young chefs of today.
